【2008自然史博物館館長論壇】國際研討會 因應全球變遷自然史博物館的新角色
Challenges and Perspectives—New Roles of the Natural History Museum in Response to Global Changes

About the Conference
The founding of National Taiwan Museum is approaching her centennial anniversary, embedded with memories, experiences, and expectations of one city and those of inhabitants, which outweigh its original value and value added. As the oldest museum, the Museum is a natural history museum, featuring academic research, specimen collection, and cultural communication. In particular, research and educational promotion encompass archeology, geology, zoology, botany, and museology.

In adapting to changes in the modern world, managers and administrators have the task of re-assessing the role their institutions play in society and the methods of management that are appropriate to that while the Museum is approaching her centennial anniversary. Accordingly, National Taiwan Museum and Chinese Association of Museums cooperate to hold the international conference of “2008 Forum of Natural History Museums” with the theme of “Challenges and Perspectives – New Roles of the Natural History Museum in Response to Global Changes.” Natural history museum scholars and experts from home and abroad are invited to explore the four topics—“New Roles and Challenges for the Natural History Museum: An Asian Perspective”, “Organization and Management: Ecology and Sustainable Development from Within – Environmentally Friendly Operating System of Museums”, “Connection with and Relevance to Eco-Environmental Concerns, Policies and Education” and “Partnership and Sustainable Development: Networks of International and Interdisciplinary Cooperation”. It is hoped that, through discussion and sharing experience, participants may stimulate vision for natural history museum deriving from tradition and transformation.
